One of the internet marketing specialties that I work with is search engine optimization. Most people think this only involves getting top listings but its actually more than that. The things that are important to SEO are:
- Getting top rankings for long tail and short tail.
- Converting visitors into buyers.
- Getting a higher Click Thru Rate
And today I am going to talk about increasing a click thru rate. If you haven’t played around with this, you should because by creating a good Title tag and Description tag for each page can drastically increase visitors to your site. Write an effective Title and description tags is a simple task but can result in a huge boost in long term traffic which also means more sales.
Just like any marketing field, you need to test and see whats most effective. And you can do that by changing the title tag of a top listed page each month and implement Google Webmaster Tools to observe what listing gets the most clicks. I changed a number one listing for my primary keyword and got a 52% increase in traffic from that keyword. All I did was change a few words around and tested.
So if you think SEO should only be a ranking game, think again. Why not focus on some of the easier SEO strategies and get more traffic. Lets go into a hypothetical situation:
Lets say that you had a number one listing and it only brought in 10 visitors a day and then you increased it 52% for about 15 visitors a day. In the long term this small change would equate to 1825 more visitors per year. So get out there and do some Click Through Rate testing. I don’t know of any tracking for Youtube CTR tracking but it helps you think of ways to get the most out of the Youtube search engine also.
Can you change the title of your post after you have published it? the title of each post is embedded into the url.
I need to put keywords on my web pages. If I do that then when I post a new article on facebook it will have the name of the site and then list all of the keywords. That distracts from the actual title of the article. I have not had a problem with this on any other social networking site. Has anyone else noticed this?
Thanks for leaving a comment Julia. You can change the title of the post and the url wording before or after publishing the content for WordPress (which is what I think you have). Also, a popular plugin that I use is “All in One SEO” which will allow you to change the title tags from the actual post title.
As for the facebook thing, I think I follow you but maybe not. I saw on your facebook page that you are using the Networked Blogs App. Its been awhile since I looked at Networked Blogs App but there might be some customization settings. All apps are different.
Are you talking about the actual URL structure? Let me know
